Accusations that "Armenians are like this" "Armenians do that", etc. As an Armenian, my opinions and actions are my own. People very well know that each individual's actions are unique, and nobody does anything or thinks anything JUST becaues they are Armenian. -That said, ARMENIANS: I'm sure you agree with me, you dislike those generalizations and hurtful words. So why do some of YOU drop by here antagonistically and say things like "THEY DO THAT- THEY'RE TURKS" and say Turks are all this, Turks are all that? Is that nice? I KNOW that both of us know how it feels to be generalized or stereotyped, as I've seen both sides do it to each other HERE. Neither of you guys liked that, right? So why do you keep doing it to the other? Treat others as you'd like to be treated. Hrant was an Armenian and a Turk. He is about the best example of a person who lived his dual identity that any of us can ever hope for. It was never easy for him, but he did. Any insult to an Armenian insults him, and any insult to a Turk insults him. Would you insult someone at their funeral? No? Well I can name numerous people on both sides who have done just that here. Yes we have our differences and problems, what do you think Hrant's life was dedicated to help sort out? The least you could do is treat EACH AND EVERY person here with respect and without generalizations about what they do and why. I know it isn't easy, because every time just one person from either group drops by and says something imflamatory it sets things off, but we've got to stop that before this spirals out of control. Please, honor Hrant's life by putting yourself in his place and try and see it from both sides. We are all Armenians, we are all Turks. We are all Hrant. Amen.

I really still can't believe it. I've been an admin at the "PEACE for ARMENIA and TURKEY" group for months. That group made some progress, we worked through many fights and found enjoyment in our shared cultural aspects (especially food!) Through that, I feel we realized that there really aren't many differences between Armenians and Turks, and that as people we are much more similar than we thought. While the group has over 350 members, when it comes to active members I'd say sadly no more than 10 were really taking part. While I feel we made progress amongst ourselves to prove to Armenians and Turks we aren't that different and should work together towards peace, the number of people affected by it was truly miniscule. What I have seen here though in the past few days is incredible. I have never seen so many Armenians and Turks wanting to work together, it is amazing and fantastic. It is like what we do over at the PEACE club but on a much larger scale. I know while our group is still a drop in the bucket when compared to how all Armenians, Turks, diasporans, etc. feel, I hope that what comes on here is a sign of larger changing of views that could occur because of this awful murder. I feel like this group (most of the time!) is fulfilling Hrant's dream for Armenians and Turks, and that is something to be proud about. I just hope we can keep on discussing things here calmly and foster friendship between our two peoples. Most important we cannot forget Hrant nor let our peoples forget the lessons we learned from him. If no improvementss come from his death then that will be almost an even bigger tragedy. Perhaps from here we can begin some projects to help foster Hrant's dream? I don't know, but I wanted to say I'm so proud and happy to see what an environment of civility we have so far kept going here and can only hope that this group, just like Hrant's legacy, continues on.

Hrant ve tanıştırdıkları...
